This opulent Walawwa is the ideal retreat for tranquility. Walawwa, a four-bedroom house, features a grand interior and a lovely, large lawn. It also has a private infinity pool with a stunning view of the lush mountains that make up the Hunnasgiriya mountain range. One bedroom has AC, while the remaining three do not.
A 20-minute journey separates Galkanda Walawwa—a medieval manor home in Sri Lanka—from Kandy.
The history of this family estate dates back to the era of the Kandyan chieftains. It has a history dating back more than a century. A masterwork of architecture, it has wooden carvings, lofty ceilings, broad verandas, 13-inch-wide stone and clay walls, and a clay tiled roof.
The fact that this Walawwa is perched on top of a mountain and offers a fantastic view of mountains all around is one of its unique qualities. Additionally, it boasts open-air sky showers with hot and cold water on demand that provide a wonderful view of the mountains as you take a shower. There is also an additional kitchen where one might prepare food using charcoal and compare contemporary appliances like blenders and grinders to antique grinding stones.
The visitors love the BBQ meals that are served by the pool. Within a 10-minute drive, you may also go to a historic Buddhist temple and a waterfall. You might stroll around the village and take in the view of the rice fields.
The third generation of proprietors is currently in charge of running the Walawwa. Mr. Suresh Ratwatte, the managing director, is a seasoned hotelier with more than 35 years of expertise operating star-class hotels.
